How To Remove Drywall Texture
In your home, it’s extremely important that your drywall contractor provide a seamless transition between various pieces of drywall. What I mean by this is, each piece of drywall that connects to one another should not look like it is actually connecting, it should all look like one piece. Often times unprofessional drywall contractors will use tape and other types of products that provide a very poor looking connection between multiple pieces of drywall. Your drywall contractor should be professional enough to where it looks like there is not a connection at all. This is what you will want to look for when you are shopping for a professional contractor.
A professional drywall contractor should be able to repair holes
The Florida Health Department is investigating the Chinese drywall reports and is yet to determine if there are any long-term health risks to the consumers. However, though the jury may be out for the moment, a class action lawsuit has been filed to represent Florida, Alabama and Louisiana on behalf of angry residents that claim the drywall did serious damage to air conditioning units, wiring, and piping. The charge is that not only does the electrical work need costly repair, the homes have to be destroyed to remove the sulfuric-based compounds permeating the properties, with many residents left in the lurch with no place to live.
It has always been easy for me to get $30 – $70 per hour doing drywall and plaster repairs. I may spend a couple hours one day tearing out and patching in new material and another 3 or 4 hours the next day finishing the job. I can walk away with $350 for a total of seven hours of work and I spent very little in materials cost.
First of all, as a do it yourselfer, you can do a perfectly adequate job of repairing your plaster using drywall compound and drywall tape. If you do it right, and you have dealt properly with the water sources, your plaster repair will last. You really don’t need plaster to repair plaster.

With a great deal of skill and expertise, a finisher can bevel the outer edges of the damaged area so that when the new material is applied over the exposed substrate (drywall, brick, concrete, etc.) it can be gradually eased toward the outer edges without overlapping the surrounding material to keep it level with the existing grade. But even this shows a slight ridge around the repair and is noticeable to those who know it’s there… namely, YOU. And this is the best that can be done without complete replacement. The more common approach I’ve seen people try is to simply try covering the crack with more of the same material used on the overall surface. The problem with this is that anything you add to the surface of a textured profile only magnifies where the damage is with a hump in a sea of bumps. So what do you do if you’re not a master mason and don’t want to spend the money on complete removal and replacement of your stucco just to fix some cracks?
